The Sleep Salon

A new "wellness sanctuary" in New York City called Yelo goes out of its way to say it's not a spa. But Yelo does fit in with one of the top spa trends of 2007 -- an emphasis on healthy sleep. You go to Yelo to nap. An attendant accompanies you into a dimly lit treatment cabin with a big comfortable chair that drops back to elevate your feet above your heart, which helps you relax immediately.

She covers you up with a cashmere blanket, puts on some ambient New Age music, turns down the lighting and disappears for 20 to 40 minutes ($12- $24). When the nap is almost over the lights come up gently to simulate a sunrise and help bring you back. If you want a little more of a treatment, you can get 30 minutes of reflexology for $65 before your nap.

I think it's a great idea for New York City. Research shows that naps can make you more productive, but our culture still doesn't condone putting your head down at lunch. At Yelo, no one will know. Yelo is located at 315 West 57th St. between 8th and 9th Avenues.
