What Is Rollerssage?

Saturday April 28, 2007
Spa junkies who like to try every new treatment that comes down the pike have something new to look forward to -- Rollerssage. It's a truly different spa treatment that combines the best of hot stone massage and Swedish massage. Have you ever had a hot stone massage where you missed the human touch, or got overheated from big stones? I like Rollerssage because you get the benefit of heated stones without losing the contact with the therapist's hands, with some crystal healing in the bargain.

Right now it's only available at a few spas in the country, including the one where it was developed -- Agave, The Arizona Spa at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale -- but it is going to be introduced to more Westin spas around the country.

Invented by an Agave massage therapist named Matthew Murdock, Rollerssage uses heated, perfectly round semi-precious stones that fit into a patented massage tool that allows the stones to roll smoothly over your body.

I had a Rollerssage the other day from the inventor himself. You start by choosing up to two of the stones that you want the therapist to work with --- hematite, rose quartz, tiger eye or sodalite. Each type of stone has metaphysical properties - hematite is good for grounding, tiger eye for optimism, etc. -- and you choose based on the areas where you think you could use some support.

Sometimes the therapist actually holds small egg-shaped crystal stones in his hands while he works. And the polished stones also have a smooth feeling that is different from the basalt stones -- less drag on the skin.

So keep an eye on Westin spas, and when Rollerssage shows up on the menu, try it!

I have been doing massage with stones for several years… never try to do it with the kinkd of stones you mentioned at the article… I found out that my clients enjoyed much more the experiencing (hot stones) using it as a tool to massage the areas, then just leaving them at certain areas of the body…
