Spa Treatments In Hard Times

I've been thinking lately about where spas fit into a world where people are worried about how they're going to make their house payments. And I have a couple of thoughts. First, spa treatments are about health and wellness. They're not -- or shouldn't be -- just a form of pampering or entertainment. Massage has real health benefits -- not the least of them stress reduction. Facials and body treatments support the health of your skin -- your body's largest organ!

When you think about massages and facials as one of the ways you support your health, then they deserve to keep a place in your budget. If you've lost your job, that's one thing. But don't panic because your retirement account has gone down, or your house value has gone down and cut out the very things that help keep you feeling good and healthy from day to day!

If you're worried or feel you need to save more, then go a little less frequently. Or find a less expensive spa that still maintains quality standards. But don't give up your spa treatments unless you absolutely HAVE to. Make a commitment to taking care of yourself, especially in hard times.

Of course, self-care is not just something you pay other people to do. The way you live your life, every day, is even more important. So I'm going to be talking more about how to live the spa lifestyle at home. It's not about spending a lot of money at a fancy spa (though that's certainly enjoyable). It's about learning how to make choices that help you feeling your best -- every day -- no matter what the stock market is doing!

Great points here.

We’re finding, too, that our clients who run spas from their home are providing excellent service quality, at a good value. Many of them have left high-end spas to work from home, and do a great job with low overhead.

Anitra, you are so right. With the economy like it is stress is building so many people’s lives. Spa treatments can and should play an important part in dealing with that stress. It is health care like you said.

This IS a time to invest in one’s health. Being worried and stressed about the economy will only cost your health. Why not gather your girlfriends at home and host a spa party instead and spread the cost. Mobile spa reduce their hourly rate by 30% when working with groups.

As we work more, and are being careful with spending, a trip to the spa is a great alternative to a more expensive vacation. Less planning, less travel, and very relaxing!
