Would You Get This Spa Treatment?

Taiz SensoriumI know it looks like a torture chamber.  But the Taiz Sensorium from Miraval Spa in Tucson, Arizona, was the stand-out spa treatment at the recent International SPA Association Media event in New York City, which showcases interesting new spas and treatments from around the world once a year.

Spa editors were literally butting in line to get blissed out to the sound and feel of music. But my annoyance melted away as soon as I lay on the table, face down, and Kep Taiz, the therapist who designed the treatment and table, placed headphones over my ears and lay heavy flax pillows on the backs of my legs.

Interesting music vibrated through the table and the round wooden balls Kep positioned on key accupressure points on my feet, hips, hands, upper arms and shoulders. It was sort of mysterious, but the effect of all this was to very quickly promote a deep relaxation response. My theory is that the vibration and the feeling of being comfortably cocooned or contained brings back the feeling of being in the womb.

Kep also had a hand-held tool that he used on other points on my spine. I couldn't believe how deep down I drifted in literally moments. And there was a dramatic build to the music that would take you on quite an interesting journey if you were to get the full treatment.

Miraval is known for its one-of-a-kind treatments that have been designed by master therapists, and Taiz Sensorium is a worthy addition. This is one of the most interesting new spa treatments to come along. Book a session if you go there - and you can't get it anywhere else.
