Deborah Szekely, the spa pioneer who started Rancho La Puerta and Golden Door, just turned 90. And she's figured out what she wants to do with the next ten years of her life -- build a new organization called Wellness Spring.
She wants a million people who care about health and wellness to give $10 to build a grassroots wellness advocacy group that will hire lobbyists to tell politicians the other side of the story. "We need to own our health, respect and care for our bodies, the home in which we live and die," she says. "It's going to take a cultural revolution -- and political will."
The idea behind Wellness Spring is that those of us who care about wellness can all afford $10. Using social networking, we tell our friends. And it builds from there. "For my 90th birthday,
my dream is that every person my life has touched will join the Wellness Spring movement," Deborah says. "As I travel the country, I'm constantly meeting people and discovering organizations doing incredible work to encourage wellness. I believe we can build a wellness movement that will forever change our country. But I can't do it alone -- I need your help."
Okay, Deborah! I'm in! And happy birthday!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Anitra. What a marvellous spa friend and mentor! Bless Deborah for starting something this grand as a lasting legacy.
I sat next to Deborah Szekely at a press lunch a few years ago and was blown away by her energy, curiosity and sharp observations. She’s proof positive that a life lived in the practice of health and wellness can be a very good thing. Wellness Spring sounds like a great idea. I’ll pitch in!
