How to Create a Spa Experience at Home #3
From your Spas Guide

How to bring the spa environment into your home with a shared meditation and massage sessions from Margaret Donner, LMT, co-author of The Wellness Center's Spa at Home. Details are found in the first Related Feature.

Difficulty Level: Easy    Time Required: 1.5 hours

Here's How:
  1. Set the mood. Make sure you won't be interrupted. Assemble supplies - massage oil, comfortable place to lie down, 2 sheets. Dim the lights. Light a candle. Put on soothing music.
  2. With music playing softly, sit comfortably in a chair with both feet on the floor, palms resting face up in your lap and eyes closed. Take five deep breaths, allowing the tension to leave your body as you exhale.
  3. Read or listen to prerecorded meditation to relax and center you.
  4. Once you are feeling relaxed and calm, you can begin the massage portion of the spa experience. Keep your partner warm. Use smooth strokes with moderate pressure. Go slowly and thoughtfully. Massage the back, arms, shoulder, and neck.
  5. Change positions so the other partner can receive the massage.

Tips:

  1. Prerecord the meditation so both partners can close their eyes.
  2. Intention is the most important part of massage. A fancy stroke delivered with roughness or while the massage giver is thinking about something else is only irritating.
  3. This is a very basic and gentle massage that you should feel free to experiment with.
