Faina
European Skin Care Center and Day Spa, located
in midtown Manhattan on 57th Street, offers
a large variety of European beauty treatments for the face and body.
Faina, a native of Moscow, was trained in Russia. She has a deep
understanding of skin and its needs. She holds a four-year nursing
degree and studied as an esthetician for an additional year. Faina moved
her spa to its current location on Feb 1, 2001 in order to expand. The
new facility has six rooms including a steam shower and six estheticians
working there (Marianna, Faina, Lia, Natalie, and Faina). Decleor,
Glymed, Ella Bache, Cellex
C, and Karen Herzog-oxygen, and Paule of Vienna among others are product
lines sold in the retail area. Additionally, Faina makes her own blend
of acne treatment which she sells all over the world.
I visited Faina in August
after attending a business luncheon in New York City. I had a European Facial
which I found very relaxing. My skin felt great afterwards. It was
recommended that I get in a routine of having a facial every 4-6 weeks.
Here are the steps to the facial:

Makeup removed, skin cleaned, and skin
examined

Face massaged to improve
circulation, improve the complexion, prevent lines and wrinkles,
strengthen facial muscles with the added bonus of being
relaxing.

Face steamed for 10 minutes
to open pores (sometimes herbs are used in the steam to treat specific
problems, but not in the steam I had)

Pores deep cleaned by
extracting whiteheads and blackheads

Mask applied to tighten
pores
-
Honey applied to lips while mask
set up "to make soft the lips"

Mask applied to
nourishes the skin (specific type depends on what the skin needs - can be apricot or
peach or collagen)

Arms and hands massaged while mask
set up

Oil applied to skin to hydrate

Moisturizer applied

Eye cream applied
Getting an appointment with
Faina (the owner) can be a challenge. She has a long list of devoted clients,
some of which have been with her for 23 years. However, she has
personally trained the other estheticians in order to offer consistent
treatment quality.
