| Zorb in Rotorua, New Zealand |
|
What's a Zorb? The question bothered us for four days. We saw a sign for Zorb rides near Kerikeri but didn't have the time to investigate. We finally found out at the Agrodome in Rotorua where Zorbs are designed, tested, made and used. A Zorb is a big inflated ball within a ball. It's taken to the top of a hill, a person gets inside the inner ball, and the ball rolls down the hill. There are two ways to do this. The Harnessed Zorb straps the Zorbonaut inside the Zorb which causes the Zorbonaut to roll head over heals down the hill. The Hydro Zorb adds a bucket of water in with the Zorbonaut and the Zorbonaut can sit, run, somersault, slip and slide all the way down the hill. There's even a children's Zorb called a Zylinder that up to three kids can play around in on the flat ground. A Zorb ride cost $40NZ in March 2001. With the great exchange rate at that time, that's the equivalent of ~$17US. Pictured below is Kari in the Hydro Zorb.
Other activities offered at the Agrodome include Helipro Helicoper Adventures, Agrojet, Bungy, Swoop, Shooting Range, Driving Range, and Dirtthingz. Kia Ora! all photos copyright 2001 Julie Register |
