Altun
Ha, 2000+ years old, is one of the
most excavated Mayan sites in Belize. It
is located about 30 miles north of Belize City and a half hour from Maruba
Jungle Resort Spa. Altun Ha was a major Mayan ceremonial center and a
trading center during the classic period (250-99 AD). There are 275+
structures and 250-300 unexcavated mounds. The city covered five square km
and the population is estimated to have been 8,000 to 10,000 people at its
peak.
