Good things come in small packages. That's certainly the case with The Bey's Garden Day Spa. The space isn't large, (The front room is a retail area specializing in aromatherapy products. In the back, there are two massage treatment rooms, one facial treatment room, and a slate bathroom with shower) but the good feelings and the positive energy the radiated by the people at The Bey's Garden is huge. I was on a long layover in LA on my way to New Zealand. On the spur of the moment, I called The Bey's Garden in Santa Monica and arranged an hour-long aromatherapy massage. My therapist, Irena, gave one of the best massages I have ever had. The minute she started on my foot, I regretted not having the 90 minute version. She knew exactly where all the tender spots were and exactly how much pressure to apply. She controlled her breathing in a way that encouraged me to take the same deep, relaxing breath with her. When she hit a tender spot and applied pressure, I did not tense up from pain as I often do. This was because of the trust Irena established with her first touch. I just breathed through it and it eventually disappeared. She rarely lost touch with me throughout the entire process - something that seems to becoming rare in massage therapists but is very important to the experience. No motion was wasted. Every touch found its mark and left it better for it. The placement of a large, hot towel on my back while while Irena worked on my legs and arms was particularly nice. The scent of lavender and tangerine from the Aroma Vera Relaxation massage oil was lovely. The Bey's Garden started out as an aromatherapy boutique featuring Aroma Vera products six years ago and added the day spa two years ago. The boutique is still a big part of the business. They carry pure essential oils that you can blend yourself or buy in existing blends. They also carry environmental products such as candles and diffusers. Owner Michele Persons, pictured above, purchased the business a little over a year ago after working there part time. Michele obviously loves the business and the employees and says they are all like family. She says clients love the day spa and business has grown by word of mouth. The Bey's Garden is what I have come to think of as an Organic Spa - comfortable, earthy, grounded,...nothing artificial in decor or attitude.
