Spa Wet Treatment Room Set Up
Suggested Set-up for Hydrotherapy, Vichy and Body Capsule Treatments

Hydrotherapy Tubs:

 

 

Treatments may include:

·          Underwater massage utilizing a hand wand

·          Underwater massage utilizing computerized programs controlling multiple body zones and water/air jets.

·          Herbal, milk, mineral or sea based products in a soaking bath.

·          Couple’s tubs for two.

 

Vichy Shower:

 

 

Treatments may include:

·          Body exfoliation (salt glows, body polishes, enzyme peels).

·          Body masks (mud, seaweed, paraffin herbal or parafango)

·          Body wraps (herbal, seaweed).

·          Spot treatments (bust, cellulite, back, arms, and legs.

·          Body tanning (use of self tanning solutions after exfoliation).

 

Body Capsule:

 

Treatments may include:

·          Many of the same treatments listed above offered in a single unit with the addition of steam.

 

Hydrotherapy Rooms:

ü        Hydrotherapy tub

ü        Product trolley

ü        Step stool

ü        Non-slip floor mats

ü        Towel warmer (mounted higher for robe hanging)

ü        Stool with back

ü        Room accessories such as bowls, cups, measuring cups, disinfecting solutions for inside tub reservoir and in a hand spray and products.

 

Vichy Shower Rooms:

ü        Vichy Shower to include thermostatic mixing valve, individual on/off for each shower head, hand shower and solid construction.

ü        Wet treatment table with a massage conversion top. 

ü        It is preferred if the wet table allows for use of a headrest during wet treatments.

ü        Product trolley

ü        Stool with a back

ü        Hydrocollator if body wraps are planned.

ü        Room accessories such as bowls, cups, measuring cups, brushes, loofahs, disinfecting solutions in a hand spray and products.

 

Body Capsules:

ü        Body capsules with the features of Vichy shower and steam and may include a hydrotherapy tub in base of unit.

ü        Portable massage table & accessories

ü        Product trolley

ü        Stool with a back

ü        Room accessories such as bowls, cups, measuring cups, brushes, loofahs, disinfecting solutions in a hand spray and products.

 

Room Size:

ü        Hydrotherapy: 10’ x 13’  Leave approx. 3 feet of space on all sides of tub

ü        Vichy: 9’ x 12’ to 12’ x 12’ Leave approx. 3 feet of space at head and sides of table.  Foot end is usually 1 ft. away from wall unless rain bar is extended.

ü        Capsule:  10’ x 10’ or 10’ x 15” if a table is added to room.

 

Safety Features:

ü        Add step stools with non-slip surface and footing.

ü        Use non-slip floor mats in traffic areas and near access to tub or tables, as needed.

ü        Install grab bars as needed and be sure to take note of all ADA requirements.

ü        Allow room for a chair for the client to rest on after treatments.

ü        GFCI electrical outlets only.

ü        Follow all Dept of Health, State Board and OSHA regulations.

 

Other Issues:

ü        Take into consideration all zoning, building codes and permits, labor unions, fire safety codes, water, sewage, electrical code and ADA (Americans with Disability Act) requirements as they relate to your specific project.  This document to be used as a guide and not as a source of regulatory issues in your area.

 

Wall Construction:

ü        Water resistant green board.

ü        Vapor/ moisture barriers as required by code.

ü        Soundproof all walls

ü        Walls and ceiling to be tiled or tile walls up to 6 feet with balance to use water resistant wall texture or paint.

ü        To avoid sound transmissions to adjacent rooms, soundproof in wall pipes, create false walls or place fixtures against walls where the sound is not an issue.

 

Floor Construction:

ü        Floor to be tiled with non-slip material

ü        Slope all floors at least ¼” per foot from outer walls towards a 6” sink drain under equipment items.

ü        Waste line is usually 3” in diameter

 

Miscellaneous:

ü        Include cabinets for product storage and moisture resistant linen storage.

ü        Counter should have at least 4 surface feet plus a utility sink (see plumbing note).

ü        Include separate enclosed containers for waste, sharps and soiled linen.

ü        Roll holders as needed for Mylar and plastic wrap.

ü        Add robe hook or a towel warmer at 5.5 ft. height for hanging robe on during treatment.  Client will enjoy a warm robe when finished.

ü        Do not install mirrors in treatment rooms.

ü        Music sound system with volume control and water resistant speakers.

 

Electrical Issues:

ü        Hard wire tub or capsule per manufacturer’s instructions on a dedicated GFCI circuit

ü        Add GFCI main shut off switch in line of sight from tub or capsule.

ü        Duplex GFCI outlet above cabinet and exterior type GFCI outlets on 1-2  walls.

ü        Add 2-3 infrared heat lamps in ceiling parallel to treatment tub, wet table or capsule.

ü        Lighting should be incandescent and include indirect, dimmable lighting (not over client) and one separately controlled dimmable task light over the sink area.

ü        Take note of any electrical appliances planned for millwork.

 

Plumbing Issues:

ü        Install tub, Vichy or capsule per manufacturer’s instructions

ü        Install water heater near room (per code).  Size will depend on unit and frequency of usage.

ü        Install utility faucet (hose bib) with both hot and cold water in an unobtrusive location for room cleaning.

ü        Install a small utility sink with a high profile faucet (to allow for filling of an 10” bowl) and single hand operation of water temperature and flow level.

 

HVAC Issues:

ü        Independent climate control in each room

ü        Variable controlled, silent ventilation fan is best if hidden and should not blow on treatment areas.

ü        Bed warmer with fleece or wool  pad

ü        Product trolley

ü        Step stool

ü        Towel warmer (mounted higher for robe hanging)

ü        Stool with back

ü        Room accessories such as bowls, cups, measuring cups, disinfecting solutions in a hand spray and products.

 

Facial  Rooms:

ü        Multi-Functional skincare system with required functions such as:  Steam, magnifying lamp, vacuum/spray, rotary brushes, high frequency, galvanic unit or woods lamp.

ü        Facial Table with back, leg and height adjustments (best with electric or hydraulic manual height adjustments)

ü        Select table with combination facial & massage capability for multi-purpose rooms).

ü        Hot Cabinet

ü        Sterilizer

ü        Wax melting pot

ü        Paraffin bath

ü        Heated mitts/booties

ü        Bed warmer with fleece or wool  pad

ü        Product trolley

ü        Towel warmer

ü        Stool with back

ü        Room accessories such as bowls, cups, measuring cups, disinfecting solutions in a hand spray and products.

 

 

Room Size:

ü        Massage: 10’ x 10’  Leave approx. 3 feet of space on all sides of table

ü        Counter top at 30-32” desk height for technician to work at while sitting.

ü        Counter to have at least 6 surface feet with a utility sink (see plumbing)

ü        Include separate enclosed containers for waste, sharps and soiled linen.

ü        Roll holders as needed for Mylar and plastic wrap.

 

Room Construction:

ü        Floor surface to be non-slip material and allow carts and stools to move about smoothly.

ü        Add a standard or Swiss shower for body treatments.

ü        Add robe hook or a towel warmer at 5.5 ft. height for hanging robe on during treatment.  Client will enjoy a warm robe when finished.

ü        Do not install mirrors in treatment rooms.

ü        Music sound system with volume control and waterproof speakers.

 

 

 

 

Electrical Issues:

ü        Add quad outlet, flush to floor in center of room under table.

ü        Duplex GFCI outlet above counter top and 2-3 outlets on convenient walls.

ü        Take note of any electrical appliances planned for millwork (such as hot cabinet, hot stone roasters or utensil sterilizer).

ü        Lighting should be incandescent and include indirect, dimmable lighting (not over table) and one separately controlled dimmable task light over the sink area.

 

Plumbing Issues:

ü        Install a small utility sink within reach of the technician area with high profile faucet (to allow for filling of a 10” bowl) and single hand operation of water temperature and flow level.

ü        If selected, Swiss shower may require a 3-4” waste pipe.

 

HVAC Issues:

ü        Independent climate control in each treatment room.

ü        Variable controlled, silent ventilation fan is best if hidden and should not blow on treatment areas.
