Golf "Turnberry allows golfers to experience the challenge of every links shot and come face to face with the features that make Scottish Links golf so unique. Both the Ailsa and Kintyre offer tight tee shots and pot bunkers, elevated tees and thick Scottish rough, undulating greens and fairways, magnificent shoreline holes and glorious seascape." |

The Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy at Turnberry The Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy opened July 2000 and is the world's premier teaching and practice facility for links golf. Players can view their swing in the audio-visual theatre and take home a video analyzing their swing as memento of their day. For those of you who don't know (and I didn't), a links course is defined as one by the sea on sand-based soil. Weather conditions change quickly, often with wind and rain. Bags are carried and your caddy is your best friend. The idea is to keep balls as low as possible. If it goes high, the ball will stay where it lands. If low, the ball will run. The ground is hard and undulating. |

The Outdoor Activity Centre at Turnberry Resort Turnberry offers a large range of sporting and leisure activities on its 800 acres. Choose from fishing, shooting, archery, falconry, off-road driving, horse riding and team-building activities. The Activity Centre opened Summer 2001. Bobby, Norman, and Ian lead us through target shooting, archery, off-road driving and fishing. The three of them knew how to make you feel as if you were amazingly talented at everything you try. Of course, you want to believe them. The weather was rainy, but we were given blue oversuits. They weren't waterproof but kept the worst of it away. It was great fun - even in the rain. |
