There is a great brochure called St. Croix Heritage Trail. It's perfect if you want to do a bit of exploring by car. You can follow the 72 mile long route around the island and stop to see the many interesting sights.

Over 300 plantations once covered St. Croix. Many of the sugar mills still dot the countryside.

On the other side of Carambola Beach is a Annaly Bay, a unique enclosed saltwater bath accessible only by hiking down the mountain. Next time I return, I would like to take Ras Lumumba's Annaly Bay Eco Hike and Talk, one of his Ay-Ay educational walking tours. He has extensive knowledge of medicinal plants of the Rain Forest.
