Going away for a grand spa vacation is great when you have the time and money to do so. But what about in between the spa getaways? What can help soothe the stressed mind, keep the body fit, pamper you and breathe life back in you on a more regular basis? A Day Spa, of course. Day Spas come in 3 basic categories: combination salon and day spa, combination fitness center and day spa, and freestanding day spa. Women In Motion Health Club and Day Spa fits into the second category and is my favorite.
Women in Motion is a fitness center with a fully equipped weight room, a certified personal trainer, a large aerobics workout room, and many classes scheduled thoughout the week. Free baby-sitting is offered for members.
Women in Motion is a day spa offering Swedish massage, Shiatsu, reflexology, facial, backcial, salt glow, sea clay body wrapping and countouring, exfoliating treatment, papya-enzyme/glycolic peel, mango total body scrub, aromatherapy, reiki, zero balancing, skin analysis, waxing, pedicure, manicure, tanning and more. There are numerous packages offered ranging from The Ultimate Escape (full body wrap, Swedish massage, facial, manicure, paraffin wax treatment pedicure, and a light lunch - 6 blissful hours) for $245 to Sweet Dreams (reflexology - foot massage and accupressure treatment, Swedish massage, sauna, and shower - 2 hours that leave you refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated) for $100.00.
Finally, Women in Motion offers classes and seminars to improve your life in other ways such as yoga and stress reduction, weight control, and smoking cessation hypnotherapy.
Women In Motion Health Club and Day Spa has done more for my overall well-being in the last few years than just about anything else. My first trip there was a result of a Christmas gift from my husband - a gift certificate for a four hour getaway that included a sauna, massage, facial, skin analysis, manicure, and pedicure. Everything was done well , but it was the massage that has brought me back again and again. Owner, Lorraine Bolger, performs the massage with great care and skill. I have also taken the 6-week class in weight control hypnotherapy. I had a cholesterol problem and did not want to turn to medication but had trouble losing weight. In the weight control hypnotherapy classes, Loraine, a certified hypnotherapist, taught relaxation techniques, provided hypnotic cassette tapes to take home on weight loss, exercise, stress management, etc., encouraged body awareness, offered nutrition information, and, most importantly for me, introduced me to the McDougall Program. Although she did not provide the class with a specific diet, she explained that she followed the McDougall Program, a fat-free vegan diet. I bought the book The McDougall Program : Twelve Days to Dynamic Health by John A. McDougall, took a trip to the Newark Co-op Natural Foods Market, our local health food store, and immediately began following the program. I have lost 18 pounds so far and I am sure I would not have been this successful without the weight control hypnotherapy.
Women In Motion Health Club and Day Spa is unpretentious. It is located in a strip shopping center near the University of Delaware campus in Newark, Delaware. But what is lacking in the visual fantasy is more than made up by the quality of the services available. Individual, student, and corporate memberships are available. I am not a member. Membership is mainly focused on the fitness center activities and, alas, I live too far away to make use of them multiple times a week. However, monthly visits for massage and/or facial, and/or backcial, and/or classes is definitely do-able for me. If you are in the area, give Women In Motion a try. You'll be glad you did!
