| Bermuda Railway Trail - Things to do in Bermuda | |

On our scooter journey, we ran across a number of access points to the Bermuda Railway Trail. We couldn't ride on this trail since only non-motorized traffic can use it. Some of the loveliest sightseeing in Bermuda can be enjoyed from the now-deserted route of the railway that once ran from one end of the island to the other. Built between 1926 and 1931, engineers were forced to lay the track as close as possible to the shore in many areas. They had to bridge the water over one-tenth of the 21-mile route - making the railway the most expensive, per mile, ever built. Commonly known as "Rattle and Shake," the railway operated for only 17 years. For more than 30 years, the right of way lay empty. Then, in 1984, the Government celebrated Bermuda's 375th anniversary by inaugurating the Bermuda Railway Trail. |

18 miles of the old railway's 22 mile length are still accessible to walkers and cyclists. |

| We intended to rent a bicycle to ride on the Railway Trail but ran out of time. |
