The MGM Grand Spa & Salon

Grand is an understatement. I could have wandered for hours in this mega-huge-gigantic  "City of Entertainment."  Finding the Spa in the MGM Grand is no easy task.  But once I did, I found a calm oasis from the maelstrom just outside its door.

The decor in the MGM Grand Spa is comfortable - using lots of earth and water elements.  The long halls that lead from the reception desk to the spa gives the impression you are entering another world, and you are.  It is tastefully decorated with sculptures and paintings.  At 30,000 square feet, the spa is very large.  But somehow it managed to avoid the conveyor belt feel that I find at many large spas.  Perhaps it was because it was not terribly busy when I visited.

I tried the 55 minute Biodroga Triple C Treatment Special Facial ($115) which I thoroughly enjoyed.  It is designed to energize tired skin by providing oxygen to the cells to help skin rejuvenation.  The treatment includes a papaya/pineapple exfoliant, extraction, steam, face massage with vitamin C gel, mask, and hot towel scented with rosemary and peppermint.  Kim, the esthetician, massaged my hands and feet with a mint-scented lotion and put them in warm mittens and booties while the facial mask dried and the rest of the facial was completed.  Very relaxing.   I am usually more disappointed than pleased with facials, but I think this facial is my favorite to date.  I felt that it actually improved the appearance of my skin and left it with a healthy glow.

The MGM Grand Spa opened in July, 1998 and contains 30 treatment rooms, two saunas, two steam rooms, two whirlpools, two relaxation lounges, two VIP rooms, and a  state-of-the-art fitness center.  It is open 7 days a week from 6 am to 8 pm.  It is open to all MGM hotel guests and open to the public Sundays through Thursdays.

The 1,100 square foot VIP rooms are perfect for couples who wish to have their spa experience together.  They feature private whirlpool tub, shower, steam room, big screen TV, surround sound, treatment area, cardiovascular equipment, extended sitting area, and vanity area.

The 2,500 square foot Fitness Center offers Life Fitness strength and cardio equipment as well as cross trainers and treadmills, Netpulse (exercise while you check out the Internet, email, watch TV, listen to CDs), Virtual Reality (stair steppers, recumbent bikes), and free weights.  Nationally certified personal trainers are available.

Other services the Grand Spa offers include:

  • Massage (Swedish, deep pressure, Shiatsu, reflexology)
    Scalp treatment
  • Exfoliating body treatments (aromatherapy salt scrub, loofah body scrub, tropical body polish, or body moisture treatment - followed by a Vichy shower)
  • Body wraps (parafango warming, seaweed nourishing, Italian thermal mud, milk and honey moisturizing, body firming, AHA
  • Facials (European, gentleman's, back purifier, cleansing, triple C treatment, modelage layering, oxygenator,  sculptura custom blend, marine moisture, enlightened, chi yang energy, acne)
  • Waxing
  • Nail Care

The spa is next to the Grand Pool Complex which features five separate pools with a combined swimming space of 27,000 square feet including a 1,000 foot long gently flowing river pool.

*Hoover Dam and Mt. Charleston are both located less than an hour away from Las Vegas.

  • Hoover Dam features film on how the river was diverted and the dam constructed as well as a tour of the power station.

  • Mt. Charleston is a pleasant break from the heat of the city.  Both times we've been there, there has been snow on the ground and the scent of Ponderosa Pine in the air.  There is a nice restaurant at the top, a waterfall to hike to, and horseback riding is available.
