wpeA.gif (53989 bytes)      On a recent visit to California’s central coast, I had an opportunity to visit Le Spa in Carmel-By-The-Sea. Le Spa is a small spa with a bright waiting room and 3 treatment rooms.

Le Spa offers a number of European treatments (some of which feature products from MATIS®, Rapidex®, REPÉCHAGE®) including facials, body care (salt glow, exfoliating body grommage, body wrap, body contouring, cellulite reduction treatment), massage therapy (Swedish, deep tissue, accupressure, therapeutic, aromatherapy, four-hands, pre-natal), hand and foot treatments (seaweed therapy, reflexology, paraffin treatment), waxing services, makeup services, wedding makeup, and a number of day spa packageswpeF.gif (51858 bytes).

I tried the REPÉCHAGE® Seaweed Hand and Foot Therapy ($45) with Paraffin Treatment for the hands ($15). The treatment was given in a very comfortable chair in a mostly reclining position. A heated pad filled with dry rice was placed on my abdomen and a comfortable pad was placed over my eyes. I was then covered with a warm blanket while a massage was given to my feet ( REPÉCHAGE® Sea Spa Foot Cream) then to my hands ( REPÉCHAGE® Sea Spa Hand Cream with Antioxidants). wpe2.gif (44750 bytes)Essential oil of Peppermint was used for its relaxing properties. The treatment was completed with a paraffin hand treatment. I dipped my hands in melted paraffin, a plastic bag was placed over them, and a mitt was placed over the bag. After a few minutes, the mostly hardened wax was easily slipped off my hands, leaving them very soft. This treatment lasted about a half an hour. It was quite relaxing. It would be perfect as a lunchtime break from work. Two things could have been improved; 1) Due to the small size of the spa, the lack of door on the treatment room I was in, and close proximity of the reception desk, I could hear every phone conversation and every transaction at the desk in spite of music playing in the background. Perhaps a door could be placed on the treatment room. 2) Although she was very nice, the therapist had very long fingernails. I have never had a massage by a person with long fingernails. I would prefer not to have another.
