Quintessence, A Day Spa

Dateline: 10/24/99

wpe7.gif (57264 bytes)In the heart of the trendy Buckhead section of Atlanta in a lovely building that was once an embassy is Quintessence, A Day Spa. Quintessence [kwin-tes ens] means of the utmost purity, the purest of elements, the life and soul. Quintessence is a showcase spa for Jurlique, a line of face, hair, and body care products from Australia – "The Purest Skin Care on EarthÒ ". Jurlique products are made from completely natural, plant-based ingredients from flowers and herbs grown on their own farms in southern Australia. No chemicals, artificial colors, fragrances, or animal testing are used. Products are based on aromatherapy, herbalism, homeopathy and alchemy. wpe4.gif (53133 bytes)

Quintessence welcomes guests with bright, sunny rooms – a small lounge and consultation room to the right and reception desk and store to the left. Behind the reception area is a cozy tearoom. Beyond and below lies a quiet maze of treatment rooms – softly lit massage rooms with paisley throws on the tables, wet treatment rooms with innovative cabinetry that hides the functional hardware, unique pedicure room with custom pedicure chairs, private dressing rooms, and more. Simple elegance describes the atmosphere. Quintessence believes regular facial treatments and massage therapy are not just for luxury and leisure, but are a necessity to maintain the radiance of healthy skin in today’s dramatic world.

wpe2.gif (38365 bytes)Quintessence offers a wide selection of facial treatments, body therapies (polishes, masks, scrubs, wraps, exfoliation), hands and feet therapy, massage therapy, waxing, products and packages.

I recently tried the Lavender Relax (60 minutes for $95). The "quintessential" oil of lavender, noted to promote relaxation and calmness, is used throughout this pleasurable massage and exfoliation. Massage therapist Maggie Dominy started the treatment with a dry brush exfoliation, followed by a body massage using lavender oil then lavender steam. The steam was accomplished by use of a Steamy Wonder Steam Canopy that quickly and easily fit right over the massage table. While my body enjoyed the steam, Maggie massaged my face and scalp. It was a perfect treatment for relaxation. I highly recommend it. Quintessence gives you the dry brush to keep. I purchased Jurlique’s OPC Tea Tree Body Exfoliating Gel and have now incorporated using both into my weekly routine.wpe9.gif (51049 bytes)
