HEALTH CLUB
AND SPA I almost missed it the first time. You see, I was looking up. The Las Vegas Strip is lined with bright signs vying for your attention and huge towers that house the thousands of hotel rooms at each property. Looking up is natural. Except it will make you miss the Four Seasons Hotel, Nevada's only AAA 5- Diamond hotel. The sign outside is small and more "tasteful" than others on The Strip. The hotel's lobby, restaurants, meeting spaces, health club and spa are housed in a 2-story Mediterranean-style building. It's 424 guest rooms are located on floors 35-39 of the adjacent Mandalay Bay Tower accessible by way of three private express elevators. Perhaps the most unusual thing about this Las Vegas hotel is that it does not have a casino. Its understated elegance is truly a quiet oasis in the riotous storm that is Las Vegas. Not that you can't easily have that excitement if you want it. Mandalay Bay is right next door. As a Four Seasons guest, you have access to many of the Mandalay Bay amenities including the casino and the 11-acre tropical water environment that features a sand and surf beach, a lazy river ride, and a variety of swimming pools. The Four Seasons has its own pool area with an 8,000 square foot free-form pool and two whirlpools. Chaise lounges are plentiful or you may choose a private canvas cabana. Poolside services include Evian spritzing, cold towels, and ice water. Cucumber slices for the eyes and fresh fruit slices (to eat) are offered regularly. The Four Seasons' 6,000 square foot Health Club and Spa offers separate men's and women's locker/dressing rooms and sauna and steam rooms. There is a full range of cardiovascular and weight-training equipment, personal trainers, yoga, as well as a 1 1/4 mile trail accessed by the pool area. The full-service Spa features six treatment rooms and two Private Spa Rooms, each with a spa tub, sauna/steam/shower, and massage table(s). I visited in November, 2000. They were just about to start a major remodeling of the spa to increase the number of treatment rooms to 17 and provide separate waiting rooms for men and women. Services offered at the Spa include:
I tried a Four Seasons Four Layer Facial ($145) using Repachage products (almost all other treatments use Phytomer). My therapist, Natalie, started with a cleansing milk, then applied a layer of seaweed to rejuvenate, tone, and firm the skin. A moisturizer followed, then a seaweed gel. Natalie finished with a warm mineral mask. This final layer hardened to a point where it could be lifted of the face in one piece. I was going to attend a masquerade ball at the International Spa Association convention in a few nights and thought this facial mask would have been perfect mask for the ball. Unfortunately, it cracked as it was removed. In any case, the facial left my skin feeling soft and moist for days. |
