Soho’s Haven Spa is a cozy neighborhood spa in Soho known for its waxing services (six rooms devoted to the art) and reasonably priced massages ($115 for 60-min.) and facials ($110 for a basic 60-min.) Situated one floor below the Mercer Street entrance, Haven Spa is a warren of 15 treatment rooms, spaced out down a long hallway: six waxing rooms (they have a fan-base), four massage/treatment rooms (one can accommodate wet treatments) and five facial rooms.
A Certified Organic Facial
Haven Spa does not cater to a crowd seeking pampering to the nth degree. If you are having a facial you will change in the treatment room. If you are scheduled for a body treatment you will be directed to a small locker room (8 lockers) to change. There is a cozy co-ed lounge where you wait for your therapist, and available snacks include fresh fruit (apples) and chips (veggie chips) along with orange water and teas.
Native flute music welcomed me into my room and I changed into a towel wrap before sliding under warmed sheets for my "Naturally You" facial ($195 for 60-min.), performed with a new eco-certified skincare line called Patyka.
My treatment was a sweet melding of facial, neck massage and hand treatment. This certified organic line is from France and can be purchased here as well as the other lines carried on site. Fortunately, there was no hard sell, just information presented without an agenda.
My facial included sweet-smelling rose water toner, rosewood milk cleanser, a radiant eye contour cream and a night serum massaged into my cleansed face. Post extraction the therapist applied a witch hazel astringent, which surprisingly didn’t sting.
A delicious-smelling spearmint cream was also used and my custom mask was comprised of organic lavender powder mixed with water along with a rasul clay to prevent breakouts, along with organic neem. My therapist (Rena) took the time to massage my upper back and shoulders while my hands were rested in mitts. Haven Spa might be on the small size but it delivers the goods despite its diminutive space.
