Name: The Spa at Harbour Inn
Type of Spa: Waterfront Inn Spa
This small waterfront inn is the perfect weekend getaway if you live in Washington D.C., Baltimore, or Annapolis -- and now it has with a small, sleek spa.
The Setting for The Spa at Harbour Inn: This inn is so close to the water you can get there by boat. Many people do, and dock at the 50-transient slip marina. Great shopping is a short walk away in the old fishing village of St. Michaels. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum tells the areas fascinating history.
The Spa at Harbour Inn: This is a small but stylish spa, with wooden floors, iron wall scones and rich jewel-toned colors like mustards, reds and plums. It only has 3,000 square feet and four treatment rooms, but the high ceiling makes you feel like there is plenty of room. The spa has nice features like a treatment room with side-by-side treatment tables for couples massage and six-headed showers in the locker room. And everyone gets their own set of sturdy plastic spa slippers to take home.
Signature Treatments at The Spa at Harbour Inn: I highly recommend the Naturopathic Wild Lime Scalp & Body Massage, which starts with your feet being wrapped in hot, moist towels. Delicious! Then the therapist massages warm, lime-scented oil into your scalp and uses warm, moist towels to help loosen up the muscles as she massage. Expect oily hair at the end, but it's soft the next day.
The Custom Facial uses either Naturopathica, an all-natural line from a company in East Hampton, NY, or SkinCeuticals, a clinical line with glycolic peels. The Naturopathica facial used a soothing chamomile cleanser, rose toner and two different masks, one to feed the skin, another to calm it. The facial also included some foot massage with peppermint tea-tree balm.
Accommodations for The Spa at Harbour Inn: This 46-room inn has high-ceilinged suites with tall windows overlooking the water. Some of the rooms have old-fashioned decor, but they are in the process of being renovated. Many have two-person Jacuzzis in an alcove in the main room. Order a Bath Before Bed, a rose petal bubble bath with candles and a bottle of Champagne -- and enjoy the view by night.
Bottom Line: The spa itself has a lot of style for such a small place, and the staff is happy, friendly and loyal. This spa is for you if you want an affordable getaway with waterfront views, shopping and good spa services. This spa is not for you if you want an extensive fitness component, with equipment and classes.
