One of New England's most opulent inns, The Mayflower has reinvented itself as a destination spa from Monday through Friday. It accommodates just 28 people at any one time (usually women only, though there are co-ed and men's weeks during the year.) A personal spa advisor helps you craft an individualized program, which includes plenty of exercise classes and outdoor activities. The 1,600 calorie a day spa menu features grassfed beef, pasture chickens and organic vegetables. Think of this ultra-luxurious and tasteful spa the Cal-A-Vie of the East Coast.
The 1894 inn, which began as a private boy's school, already has a reputation for luxury. Allerton, the new building adjacent to the spa, takes things to new heights. Suites feature high canopy beds swathed in rich jewel-toned fabrics, with mountains of pillows. All-inclusive rates include accommodations, meals, all spa treatments and gratuities (but not tax) and start at $4,500 for three nights, single occupancy. Four and five night-stays also available.
A luxurious new 20,000 square-foot spa called Spa House has eight treatment rooms, including one couples suites. It looks more like a residence than a traditional spa, with custom-designed carpets and an original work of art by Willem de Kooning. The all-inclusive price includes as many treatments as you want, including Thai massage, Shiatsu and Reiki.
The Spa House includes a Thermal Sanctuary (also called a laconium), two scented steam rooms, a domed whirlpool, a heated indoor pool, private yoga and Pilates studio, two exercise studios, yoga garden, labyrinth, and access to thousands of acres for hiking and biking
