Wallaroo sunscreen hat.

Here I am in my Wallaroo "York" hat.

Sunscreen hats are an important piece of spa clothing. Many spas are located in sunny climates, and you're likely to spend at least some time outside -- hiking, sunning by the pool, or even just walking from class to class.

Some people just wear a baseball cap (or less), but I highly recommend getting a special sunscreen hat with a brim of two to four inches and a UPF rating of 50+. Wallaroo hats are a great choice. They so stylish that celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Kim Basinger and Heather Locklear wear them. And you can see me in my Wallaroo York Rain Hat (compare prices).

Look For Wide Brims and UPF of 50+

"York" is a great hat for fall and winter. It has a cozy fleece lining that keeps my head warm. It comes in brown and tan, and has a quilted nylon exterior that keeps the rain off. I also love the fact that it has an interior drawstring that lets me get a perfect fit. The 2 1/2 inch brim keeps the sun off my face. Like other Wallaroo hats, it's "crushable" so it travels well.

Wallaroo hats come in lots of other styles for year-round wear, and most of them have a Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) rating of 50+. This means that the fabric blocks 97.5% of the sun's ultraviolet rays.

Dermatologists recommend wearing sunscreen hats year-round to protect against sun damage, which causes premature aging of skin and skin cancer. When looking for sunscreen hats, get a brim of two to four inches and a UPF of 50+, the highest level of sun protection available in clothing and accessories.

Sunscreen hats only block the skin they cover, so make sure you continue to use sunscreen on your face and any other exposed skin. They're an important addition to sun protection, but don't do the job on their own.

Try to build a wardrobe of sunscreen hats so you're never without protection -- even when you're not at the spa. And remember, not all Wallaroo hats have a UPF rating of 50+.
