Just 83 miles from Philadelphia and 56 miles south of New York City, the Ocean Place Resort and Spa is an easy commute for a weekend getaway. Given my experience, I would say it's well worth the drive, the Ocean Place a real find.
I had heard of the Ocean Place years ago when a friend was considering the property it's located in for a wedding. But, somehow I have never attended a function there and certainly haven't checked out the spa until now.
My husband and I both had services scheduled starting at 2:00 p.m., so we decided on a light lunch before heading to the spa. The Ocean View Restaurant on the first floor of the hotel offers leisure dining oceanfront. Both dishes we ordered were more than enough for our pre-spa meal.
The spa includes your standard fitness room, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and separate saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools, and showers for men and women. Their full-service European spa offers a full array of massages, facials, and body care treatments. Skin care products are available to purchase. While located directly across from the indoor pool filled with playful children, once you enter the double glass doors to the spa, you feel as though you're miles away from anyone. Decorated in a deep orange and tan color scheme, an array of candles burning in every corner, a lovely and relaxing oasis was created in this space. The background music with its Oriental undertones seemed very fitting to the decor.
I indulged in an Aromatherapy Massage (50 minutes) which I was attracted to because of the lavender and orange mixture, two of my favorite scents. I appreciated that the therapist was not chatty but rather respectful of my time to relax. This particular therapist had an innate sense of the specific spots on my body that needed a little extra work. My husband enjoyed the Stress Buster Massage (25 minutes) which concentrates on the head, neck, back and shoulder areas--his specific problem spots. he was pleased to finally find a spa that offered this mini-massage for areas that so many individuals have difficulty with. He, too, was pleased with his therapist and the overall experience.
The spa offers a nice selection of services in addition to several spa packages. However, it is not the spa to visit if you're interested in classes, as there are none. It did meet our needs. Located in a hotel, this could be either an overnight spa or a day spa. We found it to be a great experience and hope to visit again soon.
