Reader Stories: Why I Love Spas

I'm ready to go on an hike at Miraval in Tucson!

Rancho La Puerta is my favorite because it's so fun and social.

Why I Love With Spas

I love spas because they're a place where you can get nurtured and taken care of. They're serene and beautiful. They help me stay healthy and vital even as I age.

I fell in love when I got an assignment to write about spas. I had been getting massages and facials for years, but mostly from private practitioners. Spas provided a more luxurious, complete environment to support the treatments. Though I still believe in working with a few great therapists for ongoing health and wellness.

What Role Do Spas Play In Your Life?

Spas play a central role in my life because I'm always writing about them! I get regular spa treatments from my local spa, and I love the fact that I have a regular relationship with the therapists there. They know me, they know my body, and they're very loving!

I also love to go to spas to see what kind of experience they provide. Destination spas like Miraval, Mii Amo and Canyon Ranch are the ultimate for me. They're a place where I connect deeply with myself and other people, even if I've never seen them before and will never see them again.

Advice

  • Develop a relationship with a local spa or therapist to keep your skin and body healthy -- and include spas in your travel for fun and personal growth.
  • Resorts spas are great places to relax by the pool and eat whatever you want to!
  • Destination spas are the place to go when you want to get healthier with exercise classes, hikes, lectures, and great therapists (usually).
