Why I Became A Massage Therapist
I hated working behind a desk with a boss constantly looking over my shoulder. I was sure what I wanted to do but I had been going to a spa on a regular basis and every time I came home I would try to massage a friend of mine like the massage therapist did to me. My friend suggested that I go to school and become a "real" massage therapist.
My Life As A Massage Therapist
I started out at a chiropractors office which I loved. I love deep tissue massage and trying to figure out what was causing my clients pain.
After a while I started working at a spa and realized the tips were much bigger at a spa. So I ended up just working at the spa.
The clients I would work on at the spa were much easier than that at the chiropractor's office but not as interesting. About a year ago when the economy took a downturn I started teaching massage at a local college.
I never thought I would like teaching as much as I do, but I absolutely love it. I still have clients that I work on at their home but I really don't like having to drag my table around.
Lessons Learned
- Don't ask your clients if the pressure is good, they always respond with yes. Instead ask if they would like more or less pressure. You will get a more honest answer.
How Long I've Been A Massage Therapist
8 years
Where I Went To School & What I Thought Of It
Touch Therapy Institute in Encino, CA which is now called Holistic Institute. I absolutely loved my school and would highly recommend it.
What I Wish I'd Known Before I Started
I wished I would have known how much I love being a massage therapist sooner and would started career years before I did.
